New Delhi: BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said here on Thursday that the Asia Cup will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which was earlier to be held in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is currently facing a financial crisis and in such a situation a big tournament cannot be organized in this country.

Ganguly's big announcement

"The Asia Cup will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) because this is the only place where it is not raining," Ganguly told reporters after the board's apex council meeting here. The Board was informed that due to the economic and political crisis in the country, the board will not be in a position to host the upcoming phase of the Asia Cup T20.

Lanka Premier League also postponed

Sri Lanka Cricket had also recently postponed the third phase of the Lanka Premier League due to the current crisis. The Asia Cup (T20) will be held from August 27 to September 11.

India is a successful team

The 2022 Asia Cup will be the 15th season of the tournament, which started in Sharjah in 1984. India is the most successful team in the tournament, having won it seven times. Sri Lanka has won the competition five times while Pakistan has emerged as the winning team twice.
